About
Mexican visual artist and photographer based in Edmonton.
Ambar Azcorra is a Mexican visual artist based in Edmonton, Alberta. She works across photography, printmaking and research-driven material practice, returning again and again to memory, grief, migration and cultural identity as lived through the diaspora.
As a photographer, she has worked since 2018 with couples, families and individuals, collecting moments of people, places, love and everything in between, in portraits, intimate weddings and elopements. As an artist, she works in relief, intaglio and photo-based printmaking, as well as painting and ceramics.
She holds a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Alberta (2022) and is currently completing her MFA in Printmaking there. Her work has been exhibited at SNAP Gallery, FAB Gallery, the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and NextFest, and she has completed residencies with SNAP and TREX Northwest.
Outside the studio she volunteers with SNAP, Viva Clayworks and the Misión México Foundation in Chiapas. Between Mexico and Canada, she looks at what is missed, what is translated and what changes along the way.
